Michael and Ellen

About Us

Michael and Ellen are getting married. We met in November of 2014, and this is the story of how we met.

It’s July 4th, 2014 and Michael is at a friend’s rehearsal dinner with Nathan Grega-Larson and Allie McGrath. Nathan and Allie are to be married in November, and Michael ever-so-politely tells Nathan and Allie that they should invite him to their wedding. He’s fun, he dances – he’s really a hit at weddings. At some point, Allie asks him what sort of girl he likes, and Michael responds with, “I don’t know, tall?”. Allie tells him she has a cousin he needs to meet.

Fast-forward 4 months later to Nathan and Allie’s wedding reception in Savannah, Georgia, and Ellen notices a very tall, very handsome stranger dancing wildly with a group of friends. He didn’t appear to be with anyone, so Ellen managed to snag Allie and ask if the tall red-head was single. She laughed and immediately responded with, “Oh! We brought him for you!”. It would be months before Ellen knew about the July rehearsal dinner conversation. After Allie mentioned that they’d “brought him” for Ellen, she also told Ellen that he was a Notre Dame grad. That was her opening.

When Michael took a break by the window between songs, Ellen walked over and started a conversation about the game. Ellen had watched the ND game with her brothers – all avid Notre Dame fans – between the wedding and the reception. Conversation turned into dancing, and dancing led to Michael leaving his friends at the reception to accompany Ellen and her brothers and cousins to a few downtown Savannah bars. The meet-cute was a success.

They met up in Chicago for an official first date a month later, and the rest is history. They’ve been racking up airlines miles between Kansas City and Minneapolis (with stopovers in Savannah, Mexico, Europe and more) ever since.

In March 2016, after experiencing his first St. Patrick’s day in Savannah (Ellen’s favorite family holiday), he asked her to marry him. She said yes, and here we are.

We can’t wait for you to join us to celebrate on January 28, 2017 in the city where it all began.
